Why 'learning edge'? Why 'nexus'?

What the world needs is not more information.
This was part of our reason to start TheLEN: to offer something much more valuable than mere information – however timely and accurate. We focus on a different kind of education: one based on transformative learning.

Transformative learning challenges all our assumptions. Our assumptions about growth, and wellbeing, and technology. Or about money, climate, and even 'normality'. Not least, our assumptions about the future.
What about you? When did an assumption of yours crack and crumble?
Transformative learning leads to change in what we think and do. Not just change in how we do things. It takes us to the edge of what we know, and invites us to take one more step. And then yet another. And suddenly, the world looks different.

Transformative learning challenges all our assumptions. Our assumptions about ourselves. About growth, and wellbeing, and technology. Or about money, climate, and even 'normality'. Not least, our assumptions about the future.

I remember the first time I heard about an 'inflation-free economy', from Margrit Kennedy. It turned all my assumptions about money on their head.
– Marilyn Mehlmann

What about you? When did an assumption of yours crack and crumble?

The learning edge is where we're confronted with those assumptions. And what happens then depends on many factors, which may come to expression in 'Edge Emotions'. Edge Emotions range from panic to joy, often a mix of several. Even the milder ones - like gentle resistance - may have significant effects. We all need support to weather the edge and gain mastery of our new perspectives. And with that mastery, to find the energy and the will to keep on moving, keep on expanding the edge.

Out on the edge you see all kinds of things
you can’t see from the center.
  – Kurt Vonnegut

Finally, the Nexus allows us to see the connections between those multiple assumptions. And even to question our ideas about how they all hang together.
