Origins

The Encyclopaedia is the result of decades of research and design by the Union of International Associations, building upon surveys responded to by many thousands of international associations.

The first edition, published in 1976, was hailed as an early example of AI in practice.

The current, second edition references 56,000 global challenges and 32,000 strategies, and continues to evolve.

A dynamic resource

The Encyclopedia isn't just a database; it's a mindset. It’s about seeing the whole board, not just a single piece. It’s a unique tool for developing the transformative skills needed for a complex world.

What else does the UIA do?

The main business of the Union of International Associations is to publish a comprehensive Yearbook of information about... international associations. The current edition comprises six volumes.

The database dates back to 1909 and contains detailed information about upward of 60,000 international civil society organisations.
